Thinking of adopting a kitten, but wondering if I have enough time devotion?

We're thinking about getting two kittens in the fall, around the end of October-ish. My parents will be gone all day and I will be attending online school, so I'll be home all day for them for about 2-3 months. After that, I'll be going back to high school for the second semester and be getting home at about 3 everyday besides weekends. Is leaving them home alone okay for them? I know kittens require alot of attention and I don't want to leave them alone to get bored for a long period of time...so would a more mature cat be more fitting for our family? Thanks!
