What war movie is this?

I forget the name of it, but it was in WWI or II.. recent movie maybe like 2002. They were supposed to have their flanks for support, but they never showed up. Only a few dozen survived, but they broke through the German line. All they had were pigeons to communicate. What is the name of it?
